Midsize jets
A midsize jet is the first category where you stand up, walk to the lavatory and close a door behind you. Seven to nine seats, about four hours nonstop, and a baggage bay that takes a week of luggage or skis for everyone on board. It is the workhorse of charter for a reason: it fits families, small teams and couples who want room, and it still uses runways that a heavy jet cannot. The midsize jets we source from our sourcing network are the Citation Excel and XLS+, the Hawker 800XP and 900XP, and the Learjet 60. The Excel and XLS+ and the Hawkers are aircraft we place clients on regularly from our sourcing network.
This is the category we quote for the longer corridor trips. Nashville to the Rockies is about two and a half hours, and a midsize makes Aspen or Eagle nonstop with a full cabin on all but the hottest afternoons. Naples to the Northeast is about two and a half hours to Teterboro or Westchester, with room to work on the way. Dallas to Cabo is a little over two hours with customs on both ends. Nashville to Naples is a comfortable hour and a half, and on that leg a family of six with beach bags usually lands on a midsize. When the group is eight or more, or the leg runs past four hours, look at super midsize.

The cabin
Cabin, baggage, lavatory, wifi.
Cabin height is about 5 ft 8 in to 5 ft 9 in across the midsize jets we source, and width runs from about 5 ft 6 in on the Excel and XLS+ to about 6 ft on the Hawkers. Anyone under about five foot eight stands straight; taller people duck a little. Seats are club style with fold out tables, and there is a small galley for coffee, drinks and a cold tray. The Excel and XLS+ carry about 80 cubic feet of baggage in an outside bay. The Hawkers and the Learjet 60 keep baggage inside, behind the lavatory, where you can reach it in flight. Every midsize jet we source has an enclosed lavatory with a door. Wifi is on many aircraft in this category and varies tail by tail, so ask.

When is a midsize jet worth it over a light jet?
Three cases. You want to stand up and use a lavatory with a door. You have seven to nine people, or six with a lot of bags. Or the leg runs past three hours, where the extra range and the bigger cabin start to matter. On a short leg with four people, a light jet does the job for less.
How much does a midsize jet charter cost?

Prices move with dates, aircraft availability and positioning. The estimate is a range using indicative rate bands; your quote will be exact and after the desk reviews the trip.
Can a midsize jet fly nonstop from Dallas or Nashville to Aspen?
Yes. Both legs are about two and a half hours or less, well inside the range of every midsize jet we source. The question a pilot asks is the departure out of Aspen. The field sits at about 7,800 feet, and a hot summer afternoon can limit how much weight the aircraft can lift. We check that against your group and bags before we quote, and we will tell you if a morning departure or a different aircraft is the better plan.
What luggage fits in a midsize jet?
Plan on one large bag and one carry on per seat for seven, or a full set of golf bags for four with room to spare. Skis fit in the outside bay on the Excel and XLS+; ask about them on the Hawkers and the Learjet 60, where baggage rides inside. If you are moving something unusual, a cello, a dog crate, a case of wine, say so on the quote form and we will confirm the bay before we send options.
